Florida Artists Hall of Famer Bruce Helander to open one-man exhibition at Arcature Fine Art in Palm Beach.
Arcature Fine Art is pleased to announce a one-man exhibition of recent works by Bruce Helander, opening February 27, 2015 at their Worth Avenue galleries. Helander is a well-known artist who recently was inducted into the Florida Artists Hall of Fame; he is the third inductee from Palm Beach County in the award’s history and the first from Palm Beach.
Helander arrived in Florida in 1982 to start a studio and gallery on Worth Avenue, and his career received a boost when the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum acquired several of his early collages and prints. Other major museums followed, with the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Metropolitan Museum and the Smithsonian all acquiring works as well. Helander’s collages are now in more than fifty permanent museum collections, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston) and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Regionally, Helander has had solo exhibitions at the Norton Museum of Art, Museum of Art-Fort Lauderdale and the Boca Raton Museum of Art. He is scheduled to have a 30-year retrospective of his collages and paintings at the Coral Springs Museum of Art in December of 2016.
Kenworth Moffett, former director of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, observed in Gold Coast Magazine “If there was a Pulitzer Prize for collage, Helander would surely win it.” He has had numerous national reviews, including in ARTnews, Art in America, The New York Times, Art & Antiques, The Miami Herald and The New Criterion, and has had over 100 gallery and museum shows during his illustrious career. He lectures frequently, with recent talks at the Society of the Four Arts on Hunt Slonem and his latest book, “Bunnies” (for which he wrote the critical essay), as well as lectures at SCOPE, Art Silicon Valley/San Francisco and Art Southampton. He continues to be a regular contributor of art reviews for The Huffington Post.
Helander’s show at Arcature includes classic collage work, as well as large-scale paintings created directly from small “maquette” collages, which the artist has transferred to canvas, later adding embellishments such as glitter and occasionally found objects.
NOTE: In addition to Helander’s exhibition, Jerry Powers, former publisher of Ocean Drive magazine, will be presenting a collection of works recently shown at Context during Art Week Miami.
